Growing up in a family of trades workers, I can appreciate the amount of effort that is put into their craft and the skill that is needed in order to provide for one’s family. To show appreciation for my family that works extremely hard to help support my first generation college journey, I am choosing to portray my brother Jonathan and his typical day at work. Jonathan works for my family’s glass repair business, which is owned by my father. Throughout the narrative, the user is able to interact with different objects in Jonathan’s life that can point to his daily struggles. The user is not allowed to move onto the next level without interacting with every part of what Jonathan has to interact with. These struggles are not unfamiliar to the everyday trades worker. Poverty, poor diet leading to obesity, over-exhaustion, missing time with family, alcoholism, drug use, sexism, classism, unsafe working environments, work conflicts and injury are just a few of the negatives that people have to navigate to provide for their loved ones. Through the use of Processing, the coding language I use for my interactive experiences, I will be able to import images of traditional acrylic painting and digital drawings from Procreate. Users will be able to play this game on their laptop or desktop computer.
